I’ve made a quick infographic to see the varied business of Fortum in one go.
Fortum India has been vertically integrating, that is being a power producer and simultaneously acting as a bridge to fulfil the demand of electric vehicle charging. This combination, in turn provides them with an upper hand in pricing as well as technology when dealing with the power producers.
Their experience to setup fast chargers in few of the developed markets, namely Scandinavian countries, allows them to design and build support the EV ecosystem with some experience.
Fortum is now moving outside of the cities and expanding onto highways. This should provide EV drivers with more options to charge on their road trips and help quell the range anxiety issue.
This shows the routes that they’ll be electrifying in the coming year.
I spoke about how Fortum was 2nd, 4th and 4th spot in the Northern, Western and Southern markets. Link here.
India is a huge market and vastly different from what they’ve seen in European countries. We still don’t know how and at what rate the EV markets in India will grow. Only time will tell.
